Cloud Computing: Business is in the cloud

The Cloud or “Cloud Computing” concept has found a way into the daily lives of companies and societies for a while now, but there is still confusion about it and the real improvements cloud computing is able to provide to different user profiles.

This confusion is probably due to the ambiguity with which the term is used when referring to services that are different from each other.

“Cloud Computing” is the name given to the processing and mass data storage on servers that host user information.

The reality is that Cloud computing is changing the rules when it comes to different organizations. While large companies already benefit from the possibilities offered by the cloud, midsize businesses must establish joint measures in order to compete in this new environment.

The greatest advantage cloud computing has to offer is instant and 24/7 access to your data wherever you are and is available through mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.), and desktops.

According to a recent report by the European Commission, cloud spending will grow by 20% each year until 2020.

To capitalize on this growth, technology companies face two fundamental questions:

  • How to create added value for customers with cloud services?
  • How I can distinguish myself from industry giants?

Those who are able to answer these questions properly will grow their profits above the industry average. Currently, “Cloud Computing” registers annual growth of over 30% and has become one of the top priorities for technical managers in companies to address in order to join the digital transformation successfully.

For this, it is important to take into account the following factors:

  • Offer highly credible solutions in data protection in line with European standards.
  • Have a broad portfolio that can offer customers a variety of applications.
  • Create smart links between public and private cloud applications.

On average, Cloud Computing reduces investment in technology by around 30%, and eliminates much of the associated costs, such as acquisition of hardware and software licenses. Still, the most important factor in “Cloud” is the multiplier effect it has on competitiveness, by allowing companies to focus on their business and their customers, and not the technology they need.

In short, for the first time Cloud managing servers are enabling companies of any size and sector to implement web projects and business applications (Big Data, CRM, ERP …) without the amortization and headache of infrastructure or technical management requirements.
